About the event
Dear Cape Royal Residents,
We will be hosting a Hurricane Preparedness Seminar on Tuesday, March 3 from 5:30 p.m.to 7:00 p.m. on the Patio at the Cape Royal Clubhouse.
Join us to hear Michelle Cunningham Miller, AMS Certified Meteorologist, TV personality and weather specialist who will outline things we should do in order to prepare for a hurricane. Her discussion goals include:
- Share the potential impact of hurricanes—the majority of injuries and death are caused by people remaining in unsafe locations during a storm. Hurricanes bring high winds and flooding or storm surge, so you need to protect yourself from both the wind and the water.
- Know the National Weather Service (NWS) terms that are used to describe changing weather conditions. These terms—advisories, watches, and warnings— can be used to determine the timeline and severity of an approaching storm.
- Emphasize the importance of being prepared to evacuate by remembering the 5 Ps: People, Personal Needs, Papers, Prescriptions, and Priceless Items.
The Matlacha/Pine Island Fire District Fire Chief Ben Mickuleit and Deputy Chief Shawn Brant will also be on hand to cover information about our Evacuation Zone and Shelters and how the new Station #4 will be involved.
This workshop is open to ALL residents in the community and has been moved to earlier in the year so that seasonal residents have an opportunity to attend.
Please Register to Reserve Your Spot. Guests are welcome.
Before you come, please review the documents and download the All Hazards Guide on the Cape Royal HOA website by clicking here, which outline things to do to prepare for a hurricane. We encourage you to print this for your home and review this for this hurricane season.
Note: This workshop will start promptly at 5:30 pm. Food will not be served on the Patio during the event, however, the Caloosa Club restaurant will be open beforehand.
Regards,
Camille and Mark Miloff
